Plan family involvement events for February 7–13, 2010, and apply for an $1,897 Award to support your PTA in opening school doors to all families.

National PTA is offering the $1,897 Awards, also called the PTA Take Your Family to School Week Awards, to local PTAs with plans to celebrate PTA Take Your Family to School Week 2010.

The week, February 7–13, is a special opportunity for schools to connect parents to their children’s school experiences, create occasions for educators to build positive partnerships with families, and give kids fun ways to share what they’re learning and doing in class.

Promoting family involvement in children’s education has been at the heart of PTA since its founding in February 1897. PTA Take Your Family to School Week and the $1,897 Awards honor and continue that legacy.

The awards are funded by AXA Foundation, Proud National Sponsor of PTA.

What you need to know:

• PTA Take Your Family to School Week Awards will be given only to PTAs in good standing.
• All applications will be subject to competitive review. Judges will be looking for events that:
  — Are planned for PTA Take Your Family to School Week 2010,
  — Are inclusive,
  — Promote parent and family involvement in the school,
  — Emphasize parent and family involvement’s connection to student achievement, and
  — Further the Mission of PTA.
• Each local PTA that is selected for an award will receive
  — A monetary award of $1,897 to support PTA activities,
  — A potential visit to its school by a representative from the awards sponsor, AXA Foundation, or AXA Advisors, and
  — Recognition from the National PTA president.
• The $1,897 monetary award may be used only to cover direct expenses for PTA work. All award monies must be used by the PTA for PTA purposes.
• Recipients of awards will be notified by Friday, December 4, 2009.
