Smart from the Start is an early childhood health education grant program launched in September 2013 by the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF), National PTA and Discovery Education as a commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative. PTAs and schools will receive awards to support the adoption and implementation of the HWCF's free, downloadable Energy Balance Pre-K curriculum.
National PTA is offering two Smart from the Start grants funded by HWCF, which through its 250+ members and partners and it Together Counts program, seeks to significantly reduce childhood obesity rates by 2015:
- Smart from the Start: Community Outreach (apply online by March 28, 2014)
- Smart from the Start: Pre-K (available March 2014)
The Mary Lou Anderson Reflections Arts Enhancement Grant provides matching dollar funding to local PTAs to support in-school and after-school arts enhancement programs within their communities. PTAs serving at-risk student populations are particularly encouraged to apply.
This award recognizes PTAs that best demonstrate outstanding achievement in the areas of diversity and inclusion, as well as efforts to end discriminatory practices. Review the award application for more information and apply online by March 14, 2014.
