: Director of Membership and Field Operations

The nation’s largest child advocacy association currently has an opening for a Director of Membership and Field Operations, located in the Washington, DC area.  This individual will lead the overall membership and field support strategies including membership development, growth and retention and support to the PTA State Congresses in terms of operation and work with their state membership.  This position manages a variety of staff working to execute the strategic plan and interfaces with a team focused on PTA growth in urban areas.  The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of both proven and new membership and operational strategies with the PTA network in order to strengthen the overall effectiveness and impact of the work of PTA at the national, state and local level.  This individual will actively review trends and makes necessary recommendations regarding membership retention and outreach activities, as well as strengthening the state volunteer infrastructures to effectively build and maintain PTA.  Also, oversees and facilitates communication between volunteer membership and internal workgroups.

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in volunteer management, marketing, communications, sociology or related field or equivalent experience.  Master’s degree is preferred.  Minimum 7 years related experience including experience with a membership organization and at least 5 years supervisor experience is required.  Experience working with ethnically and culturally diverse groups is required.  In-depth knowledge of diversity outreach practices is required.  Experience as a project manager for an organization wide membership or marketing campaign is needed.  Demonstrated supervisory, mentoring and coaching skills are required as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must be a strategic thinker with ability to develop and execute multi-year plans with measurable objectives and must possess critical and analytical thinking skills.  Understanding of the dynamics of volunteer organizations and ability to work with volunteer leaders in a highly collaborative environment is required.   Must have previous community/grassroots organizing experience.
