On January 28, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a wide-ranging economic stimulus package. This legislation would provide much needed investment in the American economy through a variety of avenues, including over $140 billion for education. On February 10, the Senate passed their own version of this bill, which included less funding for education than the House version. Now a group of ten senators and representatives (see targets listed below) are meeting to negotiate the differences between the two versions of the bill in what is called a conference committee. Using PTA Takes Action Center, e-mail your elected official listed below on this conference committee and let them know that you believe education must remain a top priority in the economic stimulus package.
All House and Senate conferees: Senators Daniel Inouye (D-HI), Max Baucus (D-MT), Harry Reid (D-NV), Thad Cochran (R-MS), and Charles Grassley (R-IA) Representatives Henry Waxman (D-CA-30), David Obey (D-WI-7), Charles Rangel (D-NY-15), Jerry Lewis (R-CA-41), and Dave Camp (R-MI-4)
